How to sit anywhere and not get backache (Step By Step Guide)

How to sit

Step 1: Sit All the Way Back

Bring your hips back as far as they can go, until they are against the backrest.

This provides the spine with the right support and avoids slouching.

Step 2: Have a Natural Spinal Curve.

All the time maintain the lower back at a slight curve.

Do not bend or round off your back.

Step 3: Flatten Your Feet.

Put feet flat on the floor.

Do not cross your legs or hang your feet.

Step 4: Adjust Chair Height.

Set your chair so:

  • Knees are at a 90° angle
  • Thighs at right angles to floor.
  • Knees are a little lower than hips.

Step 5: Have Your Screen at eye level.

Have the top of your screen at eye level.

Maintain about an arm’s length distance from the screen.

Step 6: Soothe Your Shoulders.

Shoulders loose and relaxed.

Do not lift or tighten them when working.

Step 7: Elbows 90 Degrees.

Elbows must not be out of the body.

Maintain a 90° angle for better support.

Step 8: Support Your Back.

Make sure that your back remains touching the chair.

Do not stoop and sit.

Step 9: Stand Straight.

The head is to remain in the same line as the spine.

Keep your neck straight.

Action 10: Periodic Breaks.

Sit up on every 30-45 min.

Stretch or make movements to decrease stiffness.
